We've Got The Answers
to your questions.

(Well, not all of them. We can’t figure out #4 on that ECON final either.)

What is Alight?

It’s an apartment community designed especially with Virginia Tech students in mind, offering spacious newly-renovated apartments, great amenities and dedication to quality — all in a great location and at competitive rates.

Is Alight part of Virginia Tech?

Alight is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at Alight has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at Alight pays a flat rate that includes:

  • Furniture
  • Internet with speeds up to 1 Gigabit
  • Water/sewer (Alight West)
  • Trash removal
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • Community features — pool, fitness center, etc.
Are the apartments furnished?

Yes. All apartments feature a full set of furniture, including a leather-style living room set, full-size beds, desks and chairs, dressers, coffee table and dining furniture. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model apartments.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 19, 2022 to July 27, 2023, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

Is a co-signer or financial guaranty required?

After a Housing Agreement is signed, each resident is required to secure their financial obligation in one of three ways: by providing a qualifying guarantor (often a parent); by pre-paying the final 2 installments; or by purchasing a third-party guaranty from our partner, Leap. In limited cases, we may also waive the requirement for a financial guaranty if a resident has sufficient income of their own.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. Alight also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. Convenience fees apply for credit card and debit card payments.

Will my financial aid cover charges at Alight?

Your living costs at Alight can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at Alight. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is Alight open to non-students?

Most of the residents at Alight are students at Virginia Tech. The per person contracts are also designed with students in mind; nonetheless, Alight is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. Family members are welcome as well, subject to occupancy limits. Because of the need to match student roommates, non-students must apply together with enough roommates to fill the desired apartment.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

Alight provides courtesy patrols during evening hours, plus security cameras in select locations. Management staff are also on-site and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

Alight is a smoke-free community in all indoor and adjacent spaces. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of roommates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests. Alight is a no-pets community, except fish in small tanks approved by management.

Can I park my vehicle at Alight?

Alight offers free surface parking for all residents. Limited guest parking is also available at no charge.

What other transportation options will I have?

The Blacksburg Transit (BT) Progress Street, Tom’s Creek and University City bus routes all stop right in front of Alight Blacksburg as often as every 5 to 10 minutes, seven days a week, with extended evening service to 2:30am on Friday and Saturday nights. Virginia Tech and downtown Blacksburg are just minutes away.

Can I see a model apartment?

Yes. Please request an appointment for a personal tour, or just stop by to see us and we’ll be happy to show you the community.
